R. June SHAFFER Obituary

News Death Notice

SHAFFER, R. June 76, of Springfield, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 18, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. She was born September 6, 1937 to Floyd Shaffer and Louise Dye in Bellefontaine, Ohio. The cause of her death is not important. What is more meaningful is the mark she left showing that she passed this way on her longer journey to see her Savior, her great wish. June never met a stranger and was known for her sweet smile, she always had time to listen to your joy or sadness and willing to share her own story and her strength with God's help to go on. June attended Springfield High School until 1955 and had to leave early to go to work, but to her great delight at 40 years old she received her GED. She worked at Credit Life Insurance Company for 10 years then felt the call from God to work with women of rape and abuse. She worked in the shelter at Project Woman and went on to become a legal advocate for fourteen years. June was honored by the Ohio Attorney General's Office for her work in several positions, including board member, volunteer, shelter staff member and legal advocate. She was a longtime advocate for crime victims and retired after 24 years of service. June was also a proud member of Al Anon. She leaves her children: James Huff of Springfield, Kathleen Huff of Springfield and Kimberly (nee Joseph) and Steven Ludwig of Aurora, Ohio; a special step-daughter, Debbie Stuckey of Springfield; her grandchildren: Starr Nicole Huff, Aubrey Huff, Darrin Jenkins, and Brenden Joseph-Adkins; her brother, George "Butch" and Sally Shaffer of Baltimore, Ohio; several great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Rita Check. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Rehs; her oldest daughter, Karen Sue Marie Huff-Jenkins; her son, Stephen William Huff; and a brother, Robert Dye. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Friday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. June's funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Britton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League or Project Woman.
