William Roscoe MASSIE Obituary

News Death Notice

MASSIE, William Roscoe 87, of Springfield, left this life on Wednesday July 23 2014, with loving family at his side. Bill will be remembered as a man devoted to his family, hardworking, and who routinely put everyone else before himself. Bill was born into the farm life and that ethic would be with him throughout his days. Bill was born on October 22, 1926 to Emmett and Willa Oleva (Wood) Massie in Lisbon Ohio. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy in WWII and re-enlisted for the Korean War. Bill's Navy experiences would give him great pride and many hours of enjoyment retelling his experiences. Bill worked for 40+ years as a machinist and maintenance worker in many fields of manufacturing. There wasn't much that Bill couldn't fix. Bill married his loving wife, Martha (Louise) West in 1952. From that union came 5 children. Bill was a loving father and was consistently there for his children throughout their lives with his quiet support. Bill's worst day was one he didn't get something accomplished. Bill always had a list of "things" that he wanted to do and if he lived to be 200 he would still have things on his to-do list. Bill's other passion was his family. Bill was always at family get-togethers providing good company. Bill was a loyal Harley Davidson fan, being a rider and racer in his younger years. Bill leaves behind his wonderful wife, Louise, his five children Vickie O'Neal, William (Bill) and Jenny Massie, Mary and Larry Sprinkle, James and Teresa Massie and Virginia Downie. Bill had 11 grandchildren; Mathew (Jessica), Dustin, Joseph O'Neal and Lauren (T. J.) Muthig (O'Neal), Levi Massie, Spencer and Mitch Sprinkle, Justin (Melissa) and Natalie Ann Massie and Cheryl and Kristen Downie. One great grandchild Thomas Muthig. Bill was preceded in death by both his parents and two sisters, Wilma Dobson and Naomi Whitt. Bill has one surviving sister, Joyce Knox. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice for all their loving, attentive care for both Bill and his family, with special thanks to Carrie and Raquel. Bill will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Bill's life will be Monday at 1:00 the Memorial Home. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery with Military Honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made at
