STEVENS, Mary Laurel (Davis) 76, of Springfield, passed peacefully away in her home, with her family lovingly beside her on Friday, July 25, 2014 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Springfield on June 16, 1938, to Robert W. and Edith L. (Campbell) Davis. Mary Laurel graduated in 1956 from Northeastern High School. She was proud to be known as one of the "56ers". She was also proud to be one of the "Kennedy Girls" when future President John F. Kennedy came to Springfield in 1960. Mary Laurel was an avid reader and loved counted cross stitch. She retired from WPAFB following several years of service. She was happily married for 42 years to her devoted husband, Douglas D. Stevens, who preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter, Mary Sue (Terence) Madigan of St. Louis, Missouri; sons, Robert (Amanda) Stevens of Springfield and James (Lea Ann) Stevens of Covington, Ohio; grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda) Madigan of Cleveland, Amanda and Sean Madigan of St. Louis, Robert, Andrew, Melinda, Trisa, and Jaymie Stevens, all of Springfield; and one great granddaughter, Molly Madigan of Cleveland. Also surviving is a sister, Roberta Porter of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Lois Stevens of Michigan and Jessie Stevens of Oklahoma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Austin Stevens; and a sister, Charlene Bills. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Villa Springfield and Hospice of the Miami Valley for their wonderful care. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Mary Laurel's funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Beverly DeBord officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clark County , Dan's Towing & Recovery/McCarty Family, 2808 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH, 45206 or at www.acsevents.org.
