News Death Notice
IANNI, Rachel Cecilia Rachel Cecilia Ianni died on January 1, 2013, while living out one of her dreams of visiting Machu Picchu, The Amazon Rainforest, and the Galapagos Islands. Rachel was born on June 23, 1986 to the proud parents, Juliann and Tony Ianni. She graduated from Catholic Central High School and received a B.S. in Biology from Wittenberg University. Rachel volunteered a year with AmeriCorps doing conservation work in Nevada before pursuing her Masters Degree at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. Her Biology and Environmental Science degree led her to working at the Indiana Dunes National Forest, Chicago Public Schools and The Field Museum of Chicago. Missing her greatly is her Sister, Allison, her Brother, James and her Hearts Love Zachary Taylor of Chicago, Ill. Her Loving Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, Lisa and Brendan Sheehan, Sam, Catherine, Jack, Joseph, Thomas; Edward and Jeanne Sternad, Abigail Moleski, Melanie Kuzmin, Medina, OH; Gary and Joyce Sternad, Stacey Holmes, Jason, Eric, Brecksville, OH; Michelle and Thomas Hartman, Jessica Gdovicak, Sarah, Michael, Brecksville, OH; John and Terri Sternad, Nicholas, Matthew, Samantha, Emily, Brecksville, OH; James and Julie Sternad, Madeline, Edward, Wilson, James, Brecksville, OH; Christopher and Nancy Sternad, Natalie, Hannah, Brecksville, OH. She Loved Them Hard... Mia, Anderson, Braden, Nolan and Annalise. Great Aunts and Uncles Dante and Ann Ianni, Evelyn Amato, Jack Carney and Norbert Ploski. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 in St. Teresa Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Konerman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rachel Ianni Memorial for graduate internships in Biology, NSU Foundation, P.O. Box 2074 Thibodaux, LA 70310 or Catholic Central High School, 1200 E. High St., Springfield, Ohio 45505.

My friends and I were also among the people walking by just after the tragedy happened on Jan 1. It was shocking and when we got to the sun gate everybody was silent and had a tear despite the beauty in front of us. Our prays are with Rachel and with her loved ones

We wanted to receive the rising sun at the Puerta del Sol on New Years Day with joy amongst all of the hikers that were on the trek to Macchu Pichu. Due to the tragedy that occured on that day, in which my wife and I were present, we received it with great sadness. We send our deepest sympathies to Rachels family, loved ones and friends.

My deepest condolences to the family! I too was on the Machu Picchu trek on Jan 2.. and felt a presence as I walked towards Macchu Piccu. It is a sacred place! I am sure that her spirit will live on and touch the lives of many!

To the Ianni Family and my dear friends, the Taylor Family. I met Rachel a couple of years ago at Bev and Tom's. What a gal! Our first conversation was about her recent shopping adventure to TJ Maxx. I loved her immediately. So easy to be around and laugh with, and so at home at the Taylors. It was written all over...she loved and was loved on Plainfield Road. Rachel was in Costa Rica in 2010 as part of a study abroad trip. I inmediatly remembered her smiling face and her enormous entusiasm. There is no way of knowing why this happened, but what I do know is that the world will miss her.

Our children and their friends were on day 2 of the Inca Trail hike when we heard the news of Rachel's accident. Her passing brought such sadness to our group. Our family just finished the Inka Trail on the 31st and heard of Rachel's passing the next day while we hiked a nearby mountain. Although we never met Rachel our congregation said prayers for her and your family on our return to Illinois this past Sunday. Such a beautiful place, such sadness. Our hearts are with you.
