News Death Notice
RICE, Donald "Don" C. 80, of Springfield passed away Sunday morning, January 27, 2013 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born February 17, 1932 in New Lebanon, Ohio, the son of the late Lee A. and Mary E. Rice. Don retired from Y.S.I. in 1997 as a machinist manager. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served our country proudly during the Korean War and was commandant for two terms in the Springfield post of the Marine Corps League. Don was life member and two term president of New Carlisle Sportsman's Club and was also a NRA certified instructor of shooting sports and concealed carry weapons. He was an avid motorcyclist his entire life. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, D. Jean Rice; one daughter, Marylou (Tim) Smith of Huber Heights; three sons, Tony L. Rice of Columbus, Robert G. Rice of Springfield and Raymond L. "Pokey" (Darlene) Rice of Woodstock; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald J. Rice and one foster son, Thomas S. Gould. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 10 am to 12 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will begin at 12 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Matt Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery with military honors.
