News Death Notice

SHEELY, Kenneth L. 75, of Springfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday morning, June 9, 2014. He was born in Springfield on December 19, 1938, the son of the late Lester R. Gatewood and Minnie Annabel (Sheely) Cox. Ken proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired as Vice President of Operations from C & N Industrial Contractors following 37 years of service. He also owned Ken Sheely & Associates General Contracting, Nu Life Carpet Cleaning and previously worked with NASA Aerospace as Direct Coordinator with the Space Program. He was a member of the Union Club and Ohio Operating Engineers Union. An avid family man, Ken enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially great grandson, Kyle, attending races, hunting, fishing, and Ohio State football. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen (Aines) Sheely; eight children, Kathy Northup of Springfield, Larry Fout of Springfield, Carrie Sheely of S. Vienna, Margie (Clark) Davis of S. Vienna, Penny Fout of Springfield, Darrin Sheely of Lafayette, Ohio, Michael Sheely of Versailles, Missouri, and Tony (Tami) Fout of Eaton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Barbie (Gabe) Rico of California, Priscilla (Pat) Romig of Colorado, Terry Gregg of Dayton, and Pam Stone of Centerville; a brother, Robert (Michelle) Cox of Dayton; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lou Larsen. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Gatewood and a grandson, Jack Morgan. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Ken's funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Orbie Estep officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Rd., Springfield, OH 45504.
