HAWORTH, Robert age 86, of Pine-llas Park, passed away on May 1, 2014, at home surrounded by loved ones. He is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Diane Haworth. He is survived by his children, Christine, Donald, Kimberly, Susan, Michael, and Robin; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He also had a host of great friends who remain special to the entire family. Mr. Haworth spent 27 years as a Police Officer in the City of Dunedin and rose through the ranks to serve as the Police Chief and Director of Public Safety from 1983 to 1990. He was a man of great character & loyalty and prided himself on always doing the right thing. He loved to travel, play cards, watch the Bucs and Rays, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a very genuine, honest, and giving man that did things his way. A Celebration of Life gathering is planned for June.

I am greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Haworth. He was not only my Fathers Boss and co-worker, Chief of Police of MY town, my Head DPAL football Coach, he was also my friend. I looked upon him as kind of a second Father figure. Both Mike and I had Fathers who not only were Dunedin Police officers, but Head DPAL football Coaches. I'll always have fond memory's of Bob "Coach" of all those times of my youth, and the precious few times in life we ran into each other after that. Bob always carried that aura of respect, kindness, and gentleness, just like another Head Coach and friend of mine Dick McKenna, who also had that same Great Character. I am Super Proud to have known them and to have called these Men my Friends! I will truly, truly miss him.

We all hope that when we leave this life, that we have left a mark, that we have made a difference in our wake. This is a quote from a letter to the editor that I wrote to the St. Petersburg Times when I retired from the Dunedin Fire Dept. “Chief Haworth brought the best in all of his subordinates and you would willing do your job to please him. He was not only a great boss but a great friend, as well. Although Chief Haworth was trained as a police officer, his guidance, direction and vision were the qualities that made him the best Fire Chief that the City of Dunedin had had during my career there.”
Robert Haworth made a huge mark and left this life making a very big difference in his professional life and in his family life. His character, his personality and his ability to instil into the people who knew him that doing the right thing was the only way live your life.
He will be greatly missed, more so by his loving family, but also by all the others who had the honor and privilege to know him and be associated with him. We are all better people to have known him.
Thanks Chief for all of the conversations that we had over the years.
