Uncle Derek, you were a greater inspiration to me than I could ever express. I didn't just look up to you just as an Uncle, but as a wonderful father figure in my life. CJ looked up to you as a perfect example of how a husband and father should be. We often spoke of the beautiful marriage between you and Amy and how we hope to model our marriage after yours. A memory that blazes in my mind occurred at the pumpkin carving party. Amy looked down and rubbed her belly and smiled. She didn't know you were watching her, but I did. The way you just looked at her without her even knowing, was a look of true love that I will never forget. I promise to do right by you, and always watch out for my Aunt Amy, my cousin Chase, your fur face Kona, and my new cousin on the way, miss Abigail Susan. RIP Uncle Derek.

Derek, you were just the best friend anyone could ask for. Boat trips just won't ever be the same without you. As Abigail grows up you can bet I will tell her stories of what a great dad you were. Amy, Chase, Uncle Kevin, and the rest of the family, I can't tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Life isn't fair. If you ever need anything, just call. Love, Aaron, Lisa, and Coral

Derek...I am so thankful that I could call you my friend. I truly loved you and will miss our chats, my Curmudgeon friend. Know that your friends will carry on in your absence in taking care of your wonderful family. My best memory of you will be of how evident it was that you loved Amy, Chase & Abby. My little corner of the world has lost a bright spot. I always wished I could have had a big brother like you. You are an AWESOME man. I am sorry I did not get to tell you that. Much love..Serena

Amy you have my deepest and most sincere condolances. You guys were perfect together. In my eyes everything is for a reason, somebody needed Derek to continue on with another project, please be patient and sometime or maybe someway we will all understand it. I had nothing but the utmost respect and adoration for you two and as I understand now an unborn daughter. Girls are always daddys girls and I can only pray she will be the same! To you my friend godspeed and god bless!

I worked with Derek at Beck Graphics and to say he will be greatly missed does not do justice to the kind of person he was. His level of craftmanship was only exceeded by his love for his family, friends and his celebration of life. I am a better person for having known him and I will always be grateful for that.
