ATHAS, Sophie Stamas 97 years old, of Tarpon Springs, passed on March 27, 2015. Predeceased by siblings, Helen Zutes, Nick Stamas, Tia Howard and grandson, Andrew Garcia. Survivors include children, Dean (Rose) Athas, Gigi (Darwin) Scofield; siblings, Kally Stamas Demopoulos, Pete Stamas; grandchildren, Melissa Athas, Jon, Nate and Aaron Scofield; five great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 10-11 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral where services will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at Cycadia Cemetery. Dobies FH-Tarpon

BAKER, Kenneth Ray  
BAKER, Kenneth Ray 80 of Brooksville, died March 24, 2015 at Oak Hill Hospital. He was born June 23, 1934 in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Byron Sherwood and Erma Imogene (Shanley) Baker. Ken was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He married Mary Ellen (Nichols) Baker and had a wonderful life raising a family in Ferndale and Sterling Heights, MI. When he retired after a life making friends and auto parts at Chevrolet Gear and Axle, Ken and Mary Ellen moved to East Jordan, MI and lived on Six Mile Lake. After 10 years in beautiful northern Michigan, Ken and Mary Ellen moved to Brooksville. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Kendall. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen; sons, Gerald (Susan) and Thomas; daughters, Theresa Wick (Bradley) and June Sullivan (James); granddaughters, Apple, Kendra, Eli, and Cathlin; grandsons, Joshua, Byron Joseph, Zac, and Nick; great- grandchildren; brothers, Skip and Butch; sisters, Karen Oaks and Kathy Fakes; and countless loving friends and family. A memorial service at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell is being planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Hernando Veterans Aid, 24465 Duffield Rd, Brooksville, FL 34601. BASCHNAGEL, Walter Thomas  
BASCHNAGEL, Walter Thomas 82, of Largo, passed away March 22, 2015. A native of Ulster County he was born in Port Ewen, NY Aug. 2, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Peter Baschnagel and Marion Ruth (Thomas) and a sister Margaret Mabe Campbell. He was a graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1949 and attended the Universities of New York and Virginia and the National FBI Academy. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1949 and retired in 1969 as Captain. He earned the Naval Medal of Commendation with a "V" for Valor, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and numerous other awards. After retirement he gained employment with the Ulster County Sheriff's department and ultimately was elected County Sheriff. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Smith) after 60 years of marriage; a son, Walter Jr. (Julie); a daughter, Jacqueline (Jeff); three granddaughters, Katie, Christa, Elizabeth (Chris); and great-grandchildren, Cooper and Cara. Burial will take place Friday, April 3, at 1 pm in Florida National Cemetery with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Suncoast Hospice.
