BAXLEY, John Hood  
BAXLEY, John Hood 93, was born in Ossining, NY, on Sept. 9, 1922, moved to Florida in 1939 and passed away in Tampa, June 22, 2016. John served in the U.S. Border Patrol at the end of World War II. He retired in 1983 from the Atlantic Seaboard Coastline Railroad and Southern Weighing and Inspection Bureau after 36 years of service. He also worked at the University of South Florida Registrar's Office and volunteered at the Tampa Historical Society. John was active with his family in Boy Scouts and the Hillsborough High School Dad's Club. He was a long time member of the Florida State Genealogical Society and co-authored books on Hillsborough County Cemeteries. John was preceded in death by his parents, William Hawkins Baxley and Ethel Frances (nee Van Namee) Baxley; his sister, Frances Ethel Baxley; his brothers, William Provoost Baxley, Robert Van Namee Baxley and James Warfield Baxley; his first wife and mother of his six children, Sarah Elnora (nee Kitchens) Baxley; his wife of the last 33 years, Rosina "Rose" (nee Valenti) Baxley; his son, Bryan William Baxley; his grandson, Shawn Curtis Lewis; and his great-grandson, John Taylor "JT" Baxley. John is survived by his three daughters, Florence Baxley Lewis, Bette Marsal Bell (Dennis) and Frances Joelene Solomonson (Jon); two sons, Robert Franklin Baxley (Delia) and Clark Reid Baxley (Denise). John is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Micki Deloris (nee Bonnow) Baxley; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; two step daughters and their families. Special thanks to caregiver, Gabriella, and the LifePath Hospice Ruby team for their care. of Riverview, transitioned to his heavenly home Thursday, June 16, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pastor Rubbie Bellamy; his daughters, Chiquita Dallas (Ben), Octavia Miller (Brenton), and Lakia Haynes; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was employed by TECO Gas, formerly known as People Gas for 30 years and was the CEO of Bellamy Gas, Inc. Dr. Bellamy was the Founder and Sr. Pastor of Community Outreach Ministries.
