HORNE, Charlotte Corbitt
HORNE, Charlotte Corbitt Surrounded by her family and loved ones, peacefully slipped the bonds of earth and traveled to her new heavenly home with the Lord, Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016. There are no words that can adequately describe the extent of the impact she had on those who had the great honor and privilege of knowing her. Charlotte was the epitome of a true Southern lady, full of grace and charm, kindness and affection, always attentive to the needs of others, and the perfect ally in a crisis, facing every turn in life with a strength of heart and purpose. She exuded a special warmth, never meeting anyone who left her presence feeling like a stranger, and she was always the first to actively volunteer whatever she had or lend a hand. She lived her life to please others, giving of herself generously and unconditionally. She would light up a room by her simple presence, and she always had something pleasant and encouraging to say and never had anything cross to say about anyone, ever. Sweet Charlotte. Saint Charlotte. The incomparable Char. She was the perfect example of what the Bible describes as a "tower of strength," a committed Christian who put her faith into action. Even during the most difficult times over the last eight years, as she courageously fought the ravages of cancer, she still cared more about the welfare of others and always had that beautiful, radiant smile and a kind uplifting nature. Her greatest love was for her family. That sweet journey began when she met the love of her life, Bill Horne, in the eighth grade at Paxon Junior High School. They married at 20 while Bill was attending FSU. Their journey together initially took them to south Florida and back to Tallahassee and then to Tampa. In the last five years, they split their time between their homes in the Tampa Bay area and Asheville, NC. They recently celebrated their 42nd anniversary. Suited for life together, their love story has known no bounds and has grown stronger every year. Bill was not only Charlotte's best friend but true soul mate. And Charlotte was there for Bill every step of the way during his illustrious business career, inspiring and encouraging him forward. She was his armor; she was his shield. Charlotte saved some of her 'special' love for her beautiful children and grandchildren. You can clearly see Charlotte in the lives of Justin and Jordan, especially in the amazing young adults they have become. Charlotte is survived by her husband, Bill; son, Justin (Denise); daughter, Jordan Salman (Sam); mother, Susie Corbitt; sister, Christine Menzell (Walt); grandchildren, Adam Salman and Logan and Savannah Horne; her best friend, Sherri McClendon; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, brother and sisters-in-law, and many close friends. Thanks to the many incredible healthcare professionals who provided awesome care, especially Dr. John Cox, Dr. Rand Altemose, Dr. Harvey Greenberg, Dr. Philip Salem, and Dr. Lynn Howie. The permanent mark Char has left on the world and especially her love for family and friends will outlast all who read this and her legacy will live on through future generations because of the lessons she taught us and the example of the life she lived. We can take comfort in the fact that Char is cancer free and looking down on us with that radiantly contagious smile. A funeral to celebrate her wonderful life will be held Friday, Sept. 30, 1 pm, at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd., Lutz, FL 33548.
