Arthur Cornwell CHESNUT Sr.

CHESNUT, Arthur Cornwell Sr., 85, died July 12, 2013 in the comfort of his home. He was predeceased by his wife Jeanne; his mother and father, Mr. & Mrs. Chesnut; and his older brother, John Chesnut, Jr. The Chesnuts are one of a number of pioneer families living in Clearwater. John Sr. and John Jr. both served on the board of Pinellas County Commissioners. Both were in office for 16 years. Arthur is survived by his brother Tom of Clearwater; sons, Artie of Tampa, Stanley of Kentucky; daughter, Cindy Hart of Largo; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Arthur was born and raised in Clearwater, while in high school he earned the Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated high school in 1946. Enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for 2 years. He enrolled at Florida State University in 1948 and graduated with a BS degree in social work. Arthur re-enlisted in the Marine Corps and served as an officer for 2 years. He earned his Masters in social work from Florida State University then moved to Tampa where he was employed by the Hills-borough County Mental Health Center as a Therapist and Administrator, retiring after 34 years. Arthur enjoyed large Chesnut family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was a member of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Brewer & Sons Funeral Home - S. Tampa Chapel, 3328 S.
