SSG Arthur "Chris" NIELSEN

NIELSEN, SSG Arthur "Chris" 74, of New Port Richey, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013. Born in Middletown NY, Chris joined the NY National Guard, transferred to the Army, and then eventually ending up in the Air Force as a loadmaster in Vietnam. After three tours in Vietnam, Chris was medically discharged from the Air Force in 1975. Among his many awards and medals, he earned three Air medals while in combat in Vietnam. Chris was very active in the military clubs throughout the area, and spent 33 years as an active member of VFW Post 7987 Honor Guard in spite of his war time injuries. Chris is survived by his wife Charlotte; daughters, Jessica, Laura; sons, 1SG Terry "Gunner" Jr. USA Ret., 1SG Ricke USA Ret., Anthony; grandchildren, CPT Terry III USA Ret., JB, Marcus, Samantha, Katie, Ricke Jr., and Sara. Friends will be received Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5-7 pm. Military services begin 7 pm at Dobies Funeral Home, 8825 Old County Road 54, New Port Richey, 727-372-2550. Additional services will be held at VFW Post 7987 and Bushnell National Cemetery later next week. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans Organization in SSG Nielsen's name. For more information call 708-670-1913.
