She was born in 1922 and raised in Flint, MI by parents Marie and Stanley Wittbrodt and was predeceased by her siblings Ed (Edwin), Bud (Eugene), Rita, and Loraine (Nasser). In her early years she enjoyed dancing, both in performance and socially. While in Michigan she married and the first of her children, Judy (Holmes) arrived in 1944, followed by Dennis (Ruppel) in 1946 and in 1952 Karen (Broerman). In 1952 she moved to Pinellas County: initially, Sunset Beach, Pinellas Park and then St. Petersburg which was home from 1956 to 2005. During the mid-1960's she worked at Florida Federal S&L. Also a University of Florida fan, she met her second husband, Herbert Hiebink at a Gator Football game. They married in 1968 and she gained another daughter, Kathie (Sahl). Dorothy and Herb enjoyed extensive travel to the four corners of the earth, meeting new friends and returning with wonderful tales and pictures of their adventures. She and Herb spent their last years at the Barrington in Largo where Herb died in 2012. They were married 44 years. She deeply loved and was proud of her eleven grandchildren, Judge Kelly McKibben, Jennifer Ruppel, Tracie Pring, Jennifer Rodriguez, Chris Ruppel, Matthew Broerman, Dr. Christiana Renner, Joseph Sahl, David Sahl, Susie Sahl (Williams), and Daniel Sahl and eighteen great-grandchildren.
