Elijha James WEST Sr.

WEST, Elijha James Sr. of Wimauma, passed away Nov. 28, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted on Dec. 7th, at 2 pm, at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 5910 Vel Street, in Wimauma, Reverend James W. Ber-rien officiating. Interment will follow in Wimauma Cemetery. He attended school in Hillsborough County. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, and served during the Korean War. He loved working as a rancher moving and roping cows in the Wimauma and Fort Lonesome area. He was well known as the best Black Cowboy in the surrounding counties. He was also a self-employed farmer. Preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and four children. Survived by his children, Margaret Claritt, Elijha West Jr., Rita West, Gwendolyn West, Hazel Jackson, and Dora Reese (Ernest); brother, David Henry West, (Barbara); twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; his twenty-nine great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; caring companion, Lizzie Stevenson, who had an admirable rapport with Elijha; close friends, Norman and Ann Powe, and several cowboys who shared many years of comrade riding horses together; also community members, friends, and the buddies under the tree who will miss him dearly.The remains will repose after 5 pm, Friday, Dec. 6th, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N.
