Norman R. "Mac" McCURDY

McCURDY, Norman R. "Mac" (USAF Colonel, Ret.), age 87, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2013. Born in Aultman, PA, and retired to Dunedin in l974, following a 31 year career serving his country as a bomber pilot and officer of the United States Air Force. Mac served 22 years with the Strategic Air Command, flying in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was awarded the Legion of Merit Award with Cluster. Mac was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Dunedin and a member of the Masonic Lodge #313 F&AM of Indiana, PA. A generous and caring man, Mac will be dearly remembered by his loving wife of 66 years, Cleo Fleming McCurdy; and by his children, Randy McCurdy and Kim McCurdy Waag (Fred); brother, Charles Flanagan (Jane); and sister, Betty Lou Little. A doting grandfather to Arran Nailor (Derek); Meredith Wold (Matthew); Eric McCurdy; Austin Waag; and Rachel Waag; and great grandfather to Devin Nailor, Mackenzie Nailor, and Lila Wold. In addition to his parents, Mac was predeceased by his son, Rod McCurdy and sister, Mildred Chambers. Mac left a legacy of love and stewardship to all who knew him. He will be laid to rest at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor by his family. A memorial service at the First United Methodist Church of Dunedin will be held with friends and family on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10:30 am. Memorial donations may be made to PARC in St. Petersburg, or to the First United Methodist Church of Dunedin, two organizations where Mac enjoyed volunteering and supporting.
