Owen Charles SCHLAUG Jr.

SCHLAUG, Owen Charles Jr. 76, of Belleair, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on March 6, 2013. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Owen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Schlaug, Senior; and brother of Carol Mulhall. He left behind his loving wife of 53 years, Marilyn "Lyn"; his daughters, Karen Zastrow (Robert Zastrow) & Julie Lyons (Scott Lyons); as well as son, Owen Schlaug, III (Susan Schlaug). He was the proud grandfather of Lindsay Smith (Dustin Smith), Nicholas Zastrow, Christine Schlaug and Michael Owen Schlaug. Owen was a board member of Neighborly Senior Services, Belleair Civic Association, Belleair Country Club, past president of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the University of Louisville Alumni Association and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Owen contracted polio at the age of 13, but went on to live a productive life and served as an inspiration to others. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Louisville and the University of Michigan. He was a career actuary at the Wyatt Company for over 25 years and an Associate Member of the Society of Actuaries. Upon his retirement in 1993, he and Lyn moved to Belleair where he pursued his passion for golf. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Clearwater at 10 am. The Owen Charles Schlaug, Junior Scholarship Fund will be established in his honor to aid handicapped students in need of financial assistance. In lieu of flowers, donations in Owen's name may be sent to the Tampa Bay Chapter of the University of Louisville Alumni Association at 4480 126th Avenue North, Clearwater, Florida 33762. An annual golf tournament in his name is going to be set up by the University of Louisville Alumni Association with proceeds going to the scholarship fund.
