WALLACE, Paul F. MD 92, of St. Petersburg, passed away on May 22, 2013. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he attended medical school at the University of Chicago and the Medical College of Virginia. He served as a Sergeant in the Army in Germany, taught at the University of Michigan Orthopedics Division, and established an orthopedic practice in St. Pete in 1950. He volunteered once a week and performed operations at no charge for Crippled Children's Hospital, which later became All Children's Hospital. He was a member of the prestigious American Hand Society, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and was an associate professor of Orthopedics at the University of Florida. Dr. Wallace served as Medical Director of the 12 hours of Sebring races for nearly five decades, Medical Director of the St. Pete Grand Prix in its early years, and Course Doctor for the Southland Sweepstakes Regatta hydroplane races at Lake Maggiore. He was one of the two original team doctors for the Miami Dolphins, traveling with them and celebrating a trip to the Super Bowl in 1971. Known as an avid car collector, his pride and joy was the Queen Mary, a 1937 Cadillac owned by Presidents Roosevelt, Truman and Eisenhower. He was an avid golfer at Lakewood Country Club. He is survived by his present wife Rae; daughters, Jonnie Wallace Swann (Jim), Patsy Wallace Buker (Russell), Diane Firestone, Nancy Wallace Reynoso, Holly Wallace; stepdaughter, Maxine Solo; sons, Paul Wallace Jr (Shelly) and Art Hill; granddaughters, Lizzy Swann Oliver (John Cole ), Jessica Swann, Kathryn Wallace, Ann Reynoso, Amy Reynoso, Suzanne Hill, Peter Hill; and great-granddaughters, Sally and Caroline Oliver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Children's' Hospital, 501 6th Ave So, St.Petersburg, FL 33701 or Suncoast Hospice, 6770 102nd Ave., Pinellas Park, FL 33782. Memorial service will be at the chapel at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Avenue South, in St. Petersburg on July 19, at 11 am.
