Simon J. JASPERS

JASPERS, Simon J. 68, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2012, at Emory University Hospital. Simon was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 8. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1963, SPJC in 1965, and the University of Florida in 1968, earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant from 1968-1974, and from 1969-1970 as Finance Officer, U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy. Upon his return to the U.S., he obtained his CPA license. His career path took many twists and turns. He worked for the FDIC (RTC Division); was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of US Bank and US Bancorp, Inc.; Vice President and Controller of SunTrust Banks of FL, as well as Senior Assistant Auditor at Deloitte & Touche, CPAs. He was currently employed as CFO for Brannen Banks of Florida, Inc., Inverness, FL. In addition to his banking career, he worked for two Sarasota entrepreneurs but his most memorable career was working for George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees. He enjoyed home improvement projects, was an avid reader, and had a deep passion for history and travel. He is survived by his loving wife, Ginger, his daughter, Lisa Szymczak (Chuck); his brother, Hans Jaspers (Eloise), two step-daughters, Michelle Huebener and Jennifer Bernard (Cameron), five grandchildren, as well as other family members.
