William D. "Bill" BROWN

BROWN, William D. "Bill" age 66, passed away at home March 24, 2014, after battling cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Virginia Brown; and his previous wife, Honorable Diana Allen. He was born in Illinois and moved to Tampa with his family in 1960. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1965 and went on to obtain a BA in Criminal Justice from USF. He served in the Army National Guard of Florida as a Military Policeman and was Director of the Statewide Riot Control Response Team. In 1968, Bill continued his law enforcement career with the City of Tampa Police Department. After leaving the Department he started Brown's Services Inc., a full service private investigation agency, process and foreclosure service. In 2000, he sold Brown's Services to serve the Egypt Shrine Center as Potentate. In 2003, he returned to the work force as recruiter and trainer for Allied Barton Security Services and retired in 2013. Bill became a Mason in 1977 and was a member of the Palma Ceia Lodge #209. He became a Shriner in 1989 and is a former Director of Egypt Shrine, a life member of the Director's Staff, member of the Ritual Team, Honor Patrol, and the Scottish Rite. Bill became an Egypt Divan member in 1997 and served as Potentate of Egypt Shrine in 2001. He was the Chairman of the Tree of Life Endowment Fund and Chairman of the Annual Tree of Life Golf Tournament. Bill served on the Board of Governors of the Tampa Shriner's Hospitals for Children. He served as Deputy Director of the 2006 Imperial Shrine Convention in Tampa. He was a member of Hillsborough United Methodist Church until 2001 and then became a member of Palma Ceia United Methodist Church where he served as an usher team leader. Bill loved life, God and serving others. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne McDermott Brown; children, Nikki O'Reilly, Michael Brown and daughter-in-law, Shannon, Lacey Brown; four grandchildren, Yuniel O'Reilly, Victoria O'Reilly, Ethan Brown and Emma Brown. He is survived by brothers, Dwight Brown (wife, Cathy), Darrell Brown (wife, Patti); and sister, Diana Brown; and numerous nieces & nephews. A memorial service will take place at 2 pm, March 28, at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to the Egypt Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund, 4050 Dana Shores Dr., Tampa FL 33634-7462.
