Bernard TERZIGNI Obituary

TERZIGNI, Dr. Bernard James "Bernie" born May 25, 1928 in Bethlehem, PA passed away Aug. 20, 2014. He attended schools in Bethlehem. In 1946 had brief service as Corps Cadet. He was awarded a scholarship to Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. He earned a B.S. Degree in Biology. He earned a D.O. Degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He interned in Detroit, MI and practiced general medicine before returning to do residency in internal medicine where he was Chief Resident and awarded the Best Resident. He did fellowship at University of Michigan Medical Center. He was a lecturer for Baxter Labs on artificial kidney hemodialysis. He also practiced in Traverse City and Bay City, MI as an internist. He lectured at Adelfi College in Saginaw, MI for ICU nurses and visiting hospitals lecturing for Michigan Heart Association. In Bay City, MI, he was also an associate clinical instructor for Michigan State Medical School. He moved to Florida and practiced in Pinellas Park at Metropolitan General Hospital. He was Chairman of Department of Medicine and helped to expand the hospital. He later left to become Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been a Life Member of the A.O.A, Certified Member and Master Fellow of American College of Osteopathic Internists, a member of Michigan State Association of Osteopathic physicians, member of Florida State Society and Member of Pinellas County Association of Osteopathic Physicians. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two sisters, and son Bernard James II. He was survived by his wife Joyce of 60 years; sons, Dr. Douglas (Dr. Mary Ellen) Terzigni of Clearwater, Dr. David (Tracy) Terzigni of Spring Hill and Gordon (Carol) of Largo. He has nine grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Moss Feaster in Dunedin, FL, Friday, Aug. 29th from 5-8 pm. There will be a service at Grace Memorial Gardens Saturday from 10:30 am to 12 pm in Hudson, FL. Church mass will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Spring Hill, FL at 12:30 pm. He will be laid to rest at Grace Memorial Gardens in Hudson. Any contributions can be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
