Lori Crotts Obituary

CROTTS, Lori Lee 53, of St. Petersburg, died Jan. 31, 2013 at home after a yearlong and courageous battle with cancer. Lori, was born on Feb. 9, 1959 in Racine, WI to Richard and Beverly Seitz. Having obtained her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and later, her Masters' degree from USF in education, Lori relished her many years working as an elementary school teacher. Her career culminated in 1990 when she was honored as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Educators in Pinellas County, following which she focused on teaching and raising her own children as a stay at home mom. Lori moved to Florida in 1985 where she met and married her husband of 26 years, Troy Crotts. They had three beautiful children, Jake (21), Billy (18) and Susannah (16), who Lori loved and cherished from their first breaths to her last. She was blessed with a beautiful smile, a positive outlook and many loving friends from her teaching days, book club of 14 years, children's sports teams and gym. She cherished her friends, many pets, music, exercise and laughter. Lori is survived by her husband and children, along with her father, Dick; brother, Rick and devoted and loving sister, Lana. While she was taken too soon, she lived more in her shortened life than most do in a normal lifetime. A quote that perhaps described her best is that "Some people let life happen to them, while others make life happen". Lori made life happen! There will be a 4 pm service honoring Lori at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 4545 Chancellor St. NE, St. Petersburg, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lori's name to SPCA Tampa Bay-9099 130th Ave. N., Largo, FL 33773 or online at www.spcafl.org. Anderson McQueen Funeral Home 727-822-2059

I got to know Lori in 2000 when we trained together for the Hops Marathon with Tampa Bay Fit. (We were pushing our littlest ones in jog strollers then.) Lori knew how to tell a story, and her energy and smiles kept us going on those long, early morning runs.
In recent years we would bump into each other at races... she was easy to spot, always laughing and full of energy! We would marvel at the time that had flown by, and at the amazing people our children were becoming. It is heartbreaking to learn of her passing. Please accept my deepest condolences and prayers for your family.

We all lost a piece of our hearts last week- hearts that were fuller and filled with gratitude for our dear friend, Lori.

"May the long time sun shine upon you,
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you,
Guide your way on."

Love you always,

Our families were very close friends of Troy and Lori. We were roommates and best friends while Troy and I attended Stetson University College of Law. We both graduated and entered the real world at the same time. Lori was a beautiful and very practical lady. She alway had a quick smile and a way ofnmaking everyone feel comfortable. She was a great friend, a great mom, and a great wife to Troy. The world will never be the same without her. We will always miss her. She was one of a kind. . Mike and Caras Brundage and family

Troy, Lana, Ricky, Dick and kids. Lori was a once in a lifetime friend. I cherish the memories that I have of our time together. No matter how much time passed between the years, we continued on as if we just said goodbye as we walked home from the school bus. Lori had a way of sharing hope, love and joy. She will be deeply missed although she will always be in my heart and soul. I was so grateful that Lori, Lana and Susanna made it to the "Greenridge reunion". We were the "Thundering Herd" one more time!

How lucky our family was to have two of our three boys have Lori Crotts as a teacher in their early grade school years at Childs Park Fundemental. Such a beautiful, thoughtful, and great teacher. We are sorry for her passing and our sympathy to the Crotts family.

We are so sorry to hear of Lori's passing. I only knew her for a short time through Shorecrest, but I remember her very fondly as we shared a love of animals (black cats). May your memories bring you peace and comfort.

Lori was indeed exceptional. My daughter was blessed to have her as her second grade teacher. She was gifted and above all a loving teacher. Our lives were enriched by sharing that time with Lori.
