Stephen SURDYK Obituary

SURDYK, Stephen

Michael

61, St. Petersburg, passed at home Oct. 27, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. As a child, Steve moved with his family to St. Petersburg from Trumansburg, NY. He will be missed dearly by his wife of 34 years Karen (Brown) Surdyk; his daughter, Ashley (Surdyk) Gonnelli and her husband, Bill; his granddaughter, Harbor Rose; his mother, Barbara Surdyk; his sisters, Chris Drobes (David), Kathy Webb (Joe); his brother, Raymond Surdyk; and by his nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Surdyk; and his sister, Susan Jones (Don).

Steve was a lovingly devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. An avid Gator and Rays fan, and a love for the game of golf, afforded him the opportunity to share his life's joys with so many. His true happiness came simply in the company of his family and friends.

A memorial celebration in honor of Steve's life will be held at Albert Whitted Airport, 107 8th Ave SE, St. Petersburg, at 5:30 pm on Saturday Nov. 14. Condolences may be offered at:

It's now been 6 years since you left us to be in a better place. You have not been forgotten. You are, in fact, remembered with clarity and love. Thanks for being an example to all that knew you on how to be a good and gracious human being. Until we meet again...

I am sad to hear of Steves passing just now!! We were friends in Junior High at Bay Point and I remember times hanging out together with Kris Vera and Dana Meeson. Although many years have passed I still remember his laugh and the fun times!! I am so sorry for your loss.

I will always remember Steve's room filling smile and laugh. He was such a prankster. I worked with him and Greg Douglas at Suncoast Manor in high school and everyday was a laugh-fest! Whenever I came home to St. Pete Steve was one of the old gang I always looked forward to seeing. Karen, I send you my prayers and comforting thoughts as well as to Ashley and you extended family.

To the Syrdyk family: I am so sorry for your loss. Steve's family was friend's of ours when we were growing up. I have such fond sweet memories of the whole family. Every Monday in early Junior Hi we got together to watch the Monkees and when they had the last show, we all (the girls) cried unconsolably. Rest dear friend, Love, Shelly Zbrudzewski English

Oh my goodness!! This is such another surprise! Remember Steve so well, such a gentle man and gentleman, as well. Many evening walks, just enjoying the evenings, laughing so hard as we did our impressions of different peoples sprinklers in the neighborhood. Great man, great friend! Aww, so very sorry to hear of this! Gone too soon, my friend, my dear!! Thank you for the joy and light you shared! You will be sorely missed! Fly high, Steve!!

What a great guy Steve was! My favorite neighbor for 20 years. I never heard him raise his voice, use profanity, or speak badly about someone and he always had a smile to share. If the world only had more people like Steve, this world would would be a much better place in which to live. He will be sorely missed. Love to Karen, Ashley and the rest of the family. Until we meet again...Hi-dee-ho neighbor...

Steve's love of family, friends, and life itself was bigger than could ever be measured. It's been years since we've seen one another, besides John Hagen's memorial celebration, but I can still remember how his smile would light up the whole room, and his laugh was such it will never be forgotten. Prayers to Karen and their family.

So sorry to hear of my old friend Steve's passing. We were friends since 3rd or 4th grade at Bay Point Elementary and Junior High, then Lakewood. Our dads hung out together at the old Skyway Bowling alley. And we worked together at the old A&P at Skyway shopping center, where he was a bag boy and I was a cashier, and he locked me in the dairy cooler as a joke. My condolences to his family, to whom I know he was devoted.
