JONES, Howard B. of Troy, VA, died on June 3, 2013 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was born in November, 1927 in Clearwater. He attended Clearwater High School, then Duke University for two years. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1946 and served at Ft. Belvoir, VA for one-and-a-half years. He lived in New York City for 10 years, during which time he attended NY University for one year. In 1961 he moved to the west coast and settled in San Francisco, CA where he was employed by the federal government in its printing plant. When he retired in 1988, he was manager of the plant. Even before he left San Francisco, Howard had seen ads for Narrow Lane Farm in the Charlottesville paper and was drawn to it. He was enraptured when he actually visited the 1802 farmhouse with 18 acres, frontage on a seven-acre lake and surrounded by stately oaks and hickories. He almost immediately bought the place and has spent 25 years in bliss there. Howard was the last surviving member of his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Milton H. and Irene Jones; his sister, Mary Anne Jones Peters; and his brothers, Milton D. Jones and Homer M. Jones. He leaves 12 nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Howard will be held July 27 at Narrow Lane Farm. Contact his nephew, Jerry Peters, for details at
