Joseph N. PHILIPP Sr.

PHILIPP, Joseph N. Sr. passed away in Tampa on May 11, 2013, from the result of an auto accident. He was born on March 16, 1920 in Kings County, NY, and was baptized at St. Brigid's Catholic Church. Joe attended St. Barbara's grade school and Ridgewood High School. Joe graduated with a degree in accounting from George Washington University. Joe was a parishioner of Christ the King Church since 1957. He was part of the Greatest Generation and survived the Battle of the Bulge serving under General Patton. He landed at Normandy Beach, was a sharp shooter & was awarded 4 battle stars. He relocated to Tampa in 1952 as a Special Agent for the U.S. Treasury Department. He was a Florida citrus grower. One of Joe's biggest passions was sailing, acquiring his first vessel at age 16. He was a founding member of the Tampa Sailing Squadron since 1963. He had a passion for dancing. He was a member of the Bachelors & Belles Dance Club as well as the German American Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ellen. Joe is survived by his son, Joseph N. Philipp Jr. (Julia); his daughter, Elaine Philipp Zimmerman (Jay); and step granddaughter, Heather Diaz. A visitation service will be held from 6-8 pm, Monday, May 20th, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 South MacDill Ave, Tampa.
