HICKS, Susanne L. affectionately known as Susi, departed this world on Sept. 14, 2012 at the young age of 65. A Tampa native, Susi graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1964. During the late 1960s she was a can-can dancer at Six Gun Territory, an amusement park in Silver Springs. She received her B.A. in Sociology in 1976 from Goucher College where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa. She received her M.A. in Urban Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1978. Susi worked as an urban planner in Hillsborough County, Gulf Port, and Temple Terrace and was a long-time caregiver to her mother. At the age of 62, she joined the Peace Corps, spending two years in the Philippines, touching many lives. Susi was widely admired for her puppeteering skills and taught Hatha Yoga everywhere from an airport in Japan to the walking track in Machu Picchu. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Ariel and Clifton Hicks and two sisters, Kathryn Van Landingham and Teresa Moore. A memorial service for Susi will be held on Oct. 7, 2012 from 2-5 pm at her home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peace Corps, Philippines Country Fund are requested in her memory.
