Obituary

DOWDELL, Clark Hughes 91, of Valrico, passed away on Jan. 21, 2013. He was born on June 12, 1921, in Wimauma. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys Barnett Dowdell; his son, James A. Dowdell; his daughter, Susan B. Smith & her husband, Ronald O. Smith; his granddaughters, Lane A. Dowdell and Taylor D. Murray & her husband, William Jason Murray; and grandson, William P. Smith. He was preceded in death by his son, William C. Dowdell. He had been a resident of Albany, GA, since 1954. Clark graduated from Plant High School in Tampa in 1939. He served in WWII as a flight instructor with the United States Army Air Force at Turner Field Army Air Force Base in Albany, GA, & was also a Staff Pilot at Wright Patterson Army Air Force Base, Dayton, OH. He graduated from the University of Florida in the Class 1943. He was a Brother at Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He retired in 1982, from the Army Corps of Engineers, where he had been Project Manager for the West Point Dam Project, LaGrange, GA. He also managed several other major projects in Georgia and South Carolina. He was a Member and had been a Deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Albany, GA. Funeral services are planned for Jan. 28th, 11 am, in Albany, GA, graveside, at the Oakview Cemetery.
