Clay Scroggin Obituary

SCROGGIN, Clay C. 46, died July 28, 2011 at home in Seminole, following a valiant battle against Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive malignant brain tumor. Born Feb. 4, 1965 at Eglin AFB to LTC. Orville O. III and Mary C. Scroggin. Clay attended Fort Walton Beach High School and continued his education at Troy University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Founder and President of CompareHRIS.com, Clay built his company as a unique entity providing a comprehensive online resource for human resource software, HRIS, and HRMS applications. He is also the author of hundreds of business articles. Clay is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Deborah Allard Scroggin; mother, Mary Scroggin of Fort Walton Beach; brothers, Bruce Foreman of West Frankfort, IL, Orville O. "Dub" Scroggin IV of Fort Walton Beach, Jeffrey J. Scroggin of Roswell, GA; sisters, Jennifer T. Prescott of Jacksonville, and Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Casteel of Gaylord, KS; many nieces; and nephews: and a vast extended family and friends all over the world. Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 5-7 pm at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, in Fort Walton Beach. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 3, also at Emerald Coast Funeral Home. Clay will be laid to rest at Beal Memorial Cemetery at 4 pm. While his education, experience, and skills helped him create a successful business that will continue to help others, Clay Scroggin's legacy, for all who have known him, is his lust for life, joy, and laughter, he was "powered by optimism". Clay will be sorely missed, never forgotten, and loved always. The family suggests memorial contributions to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710 or via the following website http://www.cancer.duke.edu/btc/.

We worked with Clay for several years and always enjoyed his insight, his clear objectives, and his humor and optimism. Deb did such a wonderful job of taking care of him during this difficult struggle. Clay will be missed but always remembered with a smile.

I am very sorry to hear of Clay's passing. I did not know him very well except from the high school. I was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2007 and can understand what he had been going through. Clay GOD had given you new life that will give you no pain. God bless you.

I am stunned to hear of Clay's passing. He was my friend from Florosa Elementary School through FWBHS. To all of you, I offer my prayers and sympathy. Clay was a good friend, who I spent a lot of time with as we grew up together. I have often thought of him as I have moved around, and regret that I never kept up with him.

Dear Aunt Mary, Deborah, Dub, Jeff, Jenny, and all the family of Clay,
I just wanted you to know that you have all been in my thoughts and prayers. I wish Florida weren't so far away so I could be there in person to offer my condolences. It has been so many years since I have seen all of you that my memories of Clay are from when we were both quite young. I think I was 7 when my family came to visit your family in Mary Esther. What I remember most about Clay at that age was that he was very excited by the magic trick he got from the cereal box and he showed me that trick (I think is was making a coin disappear) over and over. I remember that he stayed and played with my younger sister and I when everyone else (who was older) got to go out on the boat.
I regret that our families did not keep in touch well enough for me to know Clay as an adult. But know that as family, I love and care for you all.
I lost my husband at a young age (he was 35)and I know that the love and support and prayer of family and friends will give you strength during this difficult time. May the beautiful memories you have of Clay keep his spirit forever alive in your hearts where you can treasure it forever. My sympathy to you all....with love from Clay's cousin, Cecilia Carey
