MITCHELL, Donald Merle "Mitch", 76, of San Antonio, FL, passed away on Tuesday Nov. 13, 2012. Mitch was born in Borger, TX and graduated from Phillips High School, then Brooks Institute of Photography where he earned his four year degree. He served as a submariner in the U.S. Navy and retired ICCS (SS), USN, E8 after 23 years. After retiring from the military he started a second career in the 1980s and relocated to Nipomo, CA working for the UNOCAL refinery as an electrician and foreman. While in California he specialized in aerial photography. After retiring a second time, he moved and eventually landed in San Antonio, FL. He was an avid golfer, loved fine cigars, cowboy boots and Levi's, Willie Nelson and traveling. Mitch is survived by his loving wife, Karen Brown-Mitchell of San Antonio, FL; daughter, Marcia Lynn Mitchell-Knee of Oregon; son, Donald Christopher Mitchell of Georgia; stepchildren, Scott Craig of Virginia, William Craig of Missouri, Kelly Craig of New Hampshire and Collette Hanlon of Massachusetts; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He has 3 surviving siblings, Jerry Gillespie, Jean Howard, Judy Shrum; nieces, Martha Aderholt and Paula Bloomer and numerous other family members all in Oklahoma and Texas. He was a loving husband, brother, father and friend and will be greatly missed. Mitch requested no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any organization that serves the needs of veterans.
