Ewell Crews Obituary

CREWS, Ewell Gene Died April 23, 2011 at the University Community Hospital in Tampa. He was born Feb. 16, 1935 in Lamont, FL to the late Cora and John Crews. He was a star athlete at Hillsborough High School. after graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for over 23 years. He was a Vietnam veteran, awarded the Bronze Star Medal, and many other meritorious citations. He continued his love for country and military affiliation, by being an active member of the Temple Terrace VFW Post 10140, for many years, up until his death. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father Cora & Peter Fernandez, wives, Beryl P. Crews (of 29 yrs) and Ellen B. Crews (of 6 years). He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Kathleen Crews; grandchildren, Kevin, Daniel, Brandon and Kelsey Crews of Illinois; aunt,Louise Hemby and family of Temple Terrace; cousin (whom he considered a brother), James Sheldon Crews, wife Martha, sons Jim, Kim and families of Tampa, with many relatives throughout the south. A memorial service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Thonotosassa, FL on May 2, 2011, led by Pastor James Brady and followed by a luncheon tribute "to Gene Crews" by the Temple Terrace VFW Post 10140. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Estate of Ewell G. Crews, c/o Attorney Juanell Linkous & Associates, 9012 Copeland Rd., Tampa, FL 33637.
