BENSON, Gerry Ables
of Redington Shores, passed away on April 18, 2016 at Largo Medical Center. She was born in Oconee County, SC, on March 3, 1924 and moved to St. Petersburg in 1954. She retired from Allstate Insurance Company. She was formerly active in Coterie and had been a member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. W. and Josaphine Spearman; and her husbands, Ken Ables and George Benson. Survivors include her daughter, Carole and son-in-law, Marty Purvis of Redington Shores; her granddaughter, Elizabeth (Paul) Davidson of Huntsville, AL; grandson, Michael (Debbie) Williams of Florence, AL; and grandson, Stephen Williams of Oklahoma City, OK. Gerry is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Pvt. Ryan Davidson of Ft. Sill, OK, Andrew Davidson of Huntsville, AL, Harrison, Lindsey and Lila Grace Williams of Florence, AL, and Tyler and Morgan Kate Williams of Oklahoma City, OK; siblings, Dot Johnson of Melbourne, Pat (Jack) Chambers of Palmetto, and Jim (Mildred) Spearman of Westminster, SC; sister-in-law, Gladys (Oliver) Bell of Auburn, CA; and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the staff of Oak Tree Manor, Seminole for the kindness and care they provided to Gerry during her last years. A memorial service will be held on June 11, 2016 at St. Anne of Grace Episcopal Church, 113th St. and 66th Ave. N., Seminole, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gerry's name to Hospice.
