WALKER, Joseph Montgonery born Nov. 4, 1929 in Oshkosh, WI; from whence his parents, Frederick C. Walker and Mabel Gilkey Walker, previously resided. Died on Dec. 12, 2013 in St. Petersburg. Joe Walker was a lifelong resident of St. Petersburg, beginning his education at Pasadena Elementary and was a 1947 graduate of St. Petersburg High School. After completing his military duty in the U.S. Army, he graduated with a degree in forestry from the University of Florida in 1952. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Victoria; his children, Joe, Mercedes, Matthew, Daniel, and Lynne; and his twelve grandchildren, Joey, Shawn, Madison, Walker, Gilkey, Caprice, Meredith, Grace, Matthew, Trent, Austin, and Dylan. Joe was actively involved in his community and ran for St. Petersburg City Commission in 1959. Although he was not elected, the issues he emphasized continue to be relevant today. He was a land surveyor and surveyed much of Pinellas County when it was a wide open space and traveled to many areas of Florida. He and Victoria actively followed the lives of their children and grandchildren. Joe was interested in all things mechanical, and had many friends among the area's motorcycle, airplane and boating enthusiasts. He enjoyed boating, building and flying airplanes, both model and experimental aircraft, riding motorcycles, and bicycling on the Pinellas Trail. There will be a gathering of friends and family Wednesday Dec. 18, from 5-7 pm at Beach Memorial Chapel, St. Pete Beach. For an online memorial and guestbook go to www.beachmemorial.com
