ALLEN, Louis David, Sr. 71, of Clearwater, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2012 surrounded by family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha and children, David, Jr., Gene, Leigh Jones, and Eric; brother, Rick Allen, eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Mr. Allen, known to many as "Coach", "Big Dave" and "Papa Big Man" to his grandchildren, was born in Birmingham, AL, Jan. 15, 1941. After serving in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, he moved to Clearwater in 1964. Mr. Allen was a Dunedin Police Officer for 23 years, serving in many capacities, most notably as a Traffic Homicide Investigator He also served as a Deputy with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department for four years. In addition to serving his community in law enforcement, he was a dedicated Little League football and baseball coach and served as an assistant football coach at Clearwater High School. Mr. Allen's proudest coaching achievement was as an assistant coach for the 1981 Florida 13 Year Old Babe Ruth State Championship team. Mr. Allen was a man of strength and integrity with unfailing ties to his Southern roots; valuing family above all else. His wry wit and sense of humor will be missed by many. Family members are asking, in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions in his honor be made to the Florida Police Benevolent Association 300 East Brevard St. Tallahassee FL 32301. Funeral services will be held on Friday April 27, 2012 at 2 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home Serenity Gardens Chapel in Largo. Public visitation hours will also be on Friday from 1 to 2 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens Memorial Park. For condolences please visit www.mossfeasterlargo.com
