HORN, Mary Janice "Jan" 62, of Clearwater passed away Dec. 29, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. Jan was born in Winston Salem, NC and moved to Florida in 1961 with her family. There they became members of The First United Methodist church of Clearwater where Jan taught preschool. Jan had a lifelong love for children and a genuine interest in their often unfortunate plights. Blooming Place for Kids was created and developed in 2001 representing a life long dream come true for Jan Horn, Executive Director and husband Calvin Horn, co-founder. Jan's broad knowledge and expertise came from her extensive experience working for behavioral and educational programs including Special Olympics and YMCA youth camps. Jan and Calvin believed "No effort on behalf of children is EVER wasted." Jan was predeceased by her father, James W. York and survived by her loving husband Calvin Horn; daughter, Lauren Gilberg; husband, Hamilton Gilberg and grandchild, Reagan Page Gilberg of Las Vegas; son, Travis Stull, wife Lauren Stull of New Zealand; sister, Melissa Curran, husband Dan Curran of Aventura; and mother Judy York of Clearwater. A Memorial will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2nd at 3 pm at The First United Methodist Church of Clearwater, 411 Turner Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice House of Florida, Suncoast, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760.
