FERNANDEZ, Michael 58, lost his courageous battle with cancer May 5, 2011. He left this world peacefully surrounded by his devoted and loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Fernandez. Michael was born in Tampa, July 3, 1952. He is survived by his mother, Polly Fernandez; wife, Terry Rubio Fernandez; daughters, Michelle Fernandez, Morgan Rubio, and Miranda Jones (Nick); and son, Michael Elliott Fernandez; and granddaughters, Alivia Borger and Riley Rubio, who were by all accounts the greatest joys in his life. He also leaves behind brothers, David Fernandez (Zee) and Douglas Fernandez. Michael was a graduate of King High School and the University of Tennessee. In 1973 Michael joined his parents in the operating of the company they founded, ABC Auto Sales. Michael spent the next years building a family legacy with ABC, Best Auto Sales, ABC Re-marketing and with his brothers MDD Investment Company. Michael was well known among automobile dealer throughout Florida is widely respected for his business expertise and willingness to assist and advise others in his related trades. He is held in high regard by business associates, employees and extended family members alike. Though he was an astute business man, those who knew him best loved him for his caring ways and straight-forward manners, always open and transparent in his relationships, both business and personal. Michael's love for all things his children did led him to spend many happy years coaching his children at Northside Little League, ASA softball and AAU baseball teams. Michael was a proud member of the dads clubs at the Academy of the Holy Names, Gaither and Jesuit High Schools, and one of his fondest memories was being selected "Foxy Father" at AHN in 2002. "The family wishes to express our gratitude to all that cared for Michael in his 11 year cancer journey, Florida Cancer Specialist, Dr. Rafael Blanco and Kim Toup, and Dr. Xavier Prida, for his complete and total honesty." A memorial service will be held 7 pm, Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home-Carrollwood Chapel. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
