FASSULA, LCDR Richard F., USN (Ret.), 84, of Lutz, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 3, 2013. He was born in Ashtabula, OH, and a graduate of Ohio State University. He proudly served his country as a Naval Aviator for more than 22 years. In addition to his assignment on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge, he held positions such as special weapons officer, test pilot and flight instructor. After his retirement in Pensacola, Dick and his family relocated to Lutz in the late 60's, where he owned & operated a successful automotive tool & equipment business for more than 40 years. Although he had many interests, his love of flying never waned. He remained a very active aviation enthusiast owning several of his own planes & continuing his civilian flight training, to include his airline transport, commercial and instrument ratings. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sherry Fassula, & Nancy Budrich and husband Dan, Tom Fassula and wife Windy. He is also survived by his devoted and his beloved grandchildren, Austin Budrich, Richard Fassula and Kyle Budrich. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Thomas and Edith Fassula; brother, Raymond & Dick's loving wife, Elizabeth. There will be a memorial service with full military honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery St. Petersburg on Tuesday, Jan. 8th, at 2:15 pm.
