ETTINGER, Seymour "Mike" 94, of Seminole, passed away May 8, 2013. Mike was raised in Yonkers, NY and owned Yonkers Shade & Awning for 40 years. He was a flight instructor for the Army during WWII at Carlstrom Field in Arcadia. While a Rotary member, Mike established the "Service Above Self Award" which recognized heroic acts by citizens. He was the former commander of the JWV, Post #68, Yonkers. Mike also belonged to Temple Emanu-El and was a member of the Masons, both of Yonkers. He was the president of the Florida Aviation Historical Society, which is involved in planning the 100th anniversary of the first commercial passenger flight in the world, departing from St. Petersburg to Tampa on Jan. 1, 1914, piloted by Tony Janis in a Benoit plane. Mike is survived by his daughter, Emily Joy Ettinger of Encino, CA and companion, Evelyn Gray, of Seminole. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor.
