BROWN, Sharon Stragand-Shaw beloved resident of Regal Palms at the Palms of Largo for the past four years, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Born in Muncie, IN on May 26, 1939 to Robert R. and Marjorie M. (nee Shatto) Stragand, Sharon grew up in Dayton, OH. She graduated in 1957 from Julienne High School and attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. A gifted lyric soprano, Sharon performed regularly in the 1960s and 1970s with the Dayton, Toledo, Springfield and Cincinnati Zoo Opera companies, and was an active soloist with the Dayton Westminster Presbyterian Church choir and Lorenz Publishing Company recording group. After moving to Florida in 1979, Sharon became active in the Republican Club of Port St. Lucie and is a past president. She also worked many years as an Intake Facilitator at Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, taught Catechism and sang with the Our Lady of Good Hope, Pinellas Park choir, where she was also a parishioner. Sharon is survived by two daughters, Laura Shaw of Norwalk, CT and Holly (Neil) Hokanson, of Houston, TX; as well as two grandsons, Andrew N. (Cara) Hokanson and Robert K. Hokanson, both of Houston, TX. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 27th, 10 am at Regal Palms in Largo. Interment in Muncie, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sharon's name be made to the Hospice organization of your choice.
