PILE, Dorothy Elizabeth age 91, died April 12, 2014, in Spring Hill. Born in Philadelphia, PA, May 14, 1922, the daughter of Sydney Thomas Pile and Ethel Hock. She grew up in Hellertown, PA, and called eastern Pennsylvania home until retiring to Florida in 1972. She served as a weather observer in the U.S. Air Force at the time of the Korean War, stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged with partial disability after suffering a head injury. She was a waitress 1st class and union steward on steamship cruise lines for 16 years, sometimes at sea for 84 plus days at a time. Her travels took her to all 50 states and every continent except Antarctica. She will be remembered for her spunk and generosity, from smuggling medical supplies into Haiti to helping countless people throughout her life. Her cremated remains will be scattered at sea.
