GREENE, Julia Elizabeth Ellison "Juji" 74, of St. Petersburg, completed her life on May 31, 2014, after a four year-long battle with colon cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Warren Talmadge Greene; daughter, Linda Wren Krahl and son-in-law, David E. Krahl, of St. Petersburg; son, Jeffrey Mark Greene and daughter-in-law, Ann Kastor Greene, of McDonough, GA; two grandchildren, Erin Kathleen Strott and her husband, D. J. Strott of Palmetto, FL, and Jake Brian McAllister of St. Petersburg; great-granddaughter, Harper Wren Strott of Palmetto; sister, Linda Chadwick of Pacolet Mills, SC; nephew, Larry Monty "Chad" Chadwick II of Arlington, VA; and niece, Julia Chadwick Roberts of London, England. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Raymond "Red" Ellison of Pacolet Mills, SC and her brother, William Raymond Ellison, of Palm Springs, CA. In her professional career, Julia was a true visionary and a nationally-recognized leader in regional planning for environmental protection, transportation, and growth management. Her contributions to regional planning across the Tampa Bay region, the state, and the nation are notable. Julia is the former executive director of the Pasco Pinellas Area Agency on Aging, and she became the first female in the nation to become an executive director of a Regional Planning Council. Julia is the former executive director of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council and San Joaquin Council of Governments in Stockton, CA. She is also a past president of the Executive Director's Board of the National Association of Regional Councils in Washington, DC, and a past recipient of the national Walter Scheiber Award for regional planning. A lifelong progressive Democrat, Julia was a strong advocate for women's rights and the educational advancement of women. As a devout Methodist and person of faith, she was a member of Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church in Pacolet Mills, SC and an Associate Member of the Seminole United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 10 am at Seminole United Methodist Church, 5400 Seminole Boulevard in Seminole, FL.
