CAREY, Jack Smith 87, of St. Petersburg, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014, at home in Westminster Palms. He was a native of St. Petersburg and a graduate of St. Petersburg High School, Class of 1944. After serving in the Army Air Corps, he attended the University of Florida and graduated from the University of Florida School of Law. Before returning to St. Petersburg to practice law with his father, C.I. Carey, and brother, William H. Carey, he was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at field offices located in Johnstown, PA and Detroit, MI. Throughout his 50 year law career, Jack served the community on several city committees and was also elected to a term on City Council. In later years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife by motor home to 46 of the 50 states and 5 Canadian provinces. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Delight. He is survived by his son, Jack Jr.; daughters, Joy Carey and Jill Hill; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grand children; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK St. N., St. Petersburg on Thursday, July 10, at 11 am.
