RUSSELL, Hazel Clara 85, of Clearwater Beach passed away quietly Friday, July 18, 2014. She was born June 28, 1929 in Ocean Springs, MS, the fifth of six children of Hiram Miner Russell and Ethel Josephine (Duffy) Russell. Her childhood was spent on the Gulf of Mississippi until her family relocated to New London, CT in 1938. She graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in New London, Class of 1947, and began work shortly thereafter at the Electric Boat Company now known as General Dynamics. She was also a member of the Groton, CT squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and attained the rank of Lieutenant. In the late 1960s, Hazel relocated for a time to California to reside with her mother. She moved to Clearwater in the early 1970s and worked at the Jim Walter Corp. until their closing and her retirement during which time she obtained a BS in Accounting from University of South Florida. Hazel was a warm-hearted, kind, vibrant, and talented woman. She enjoyed singing in her choir, boating, and traveling. Her home was always open to those in need. Besides her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her sister, Lucille Webster of East Lyme, CT, her brothers, Hiram Russell Jr. of Daly City, CA, James Russell Sr. of Clearwater, FL, her sister, Ethel May Russell of Clearwater, FL, and her niece, Katherine Russell of Daly City, CA. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Russell, of Clearwater. Hazel is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Diana Glover of East Lyme, CT; James Russell Jr. of Tallahassee, FL; Dan Webster of Waterford, CT; W. Russell Webster of Cape Elizabeth, ME; and Linda Russell Biondi and Jackie Russell of Collinsville, IL. A funeral mass will be 11:30 Monday at St. Brendan Catholic Church.
