STEWART, Herbert Gerard Jr. "Stew" 82, of New Port Richey, went home to Heaven on July 27, 2014. Stew was born in Boston, MA, on April 22, 1932, to the late Herbert G. Stewart Sr., and Helen L. Stewart. He knew from a young boy that he wanted to be a soldier. Not just any soldier, but an elite soldier. So he jumped in to the Korean War as an Airborne Soldier at the age of 17. He survived heavy combat multiple times. Many of his friends, his "brothers", did not. He never forgot any of them. Stew loved his country. He went on to serve in every branch of the military except the Coast Guard and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years in 1969. After retiring, he went on to become a Lieutenant on the Sandwich Fire Department on Cape Cod, MA, where he also retired. Stew is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Mary Stewart; sons, Daniel Stewart and his wife Beth, James Stewart, William Stewart and his wife Chris; daughters, Linda Stewart, and Kelly Hetrick and her husband Milton; as well as 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Dad, we love you so much and your family will miss you forever. A celebration of Life service will be held Aug. 16, 2014, at 12 pm at the River of Praise church at 5320 Palmetto Rd., New Port Richey, FL 34652. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the River of Praise church in Stew's name. Dobies Funeral Home, Congress Chapel
