MAYER, Joan Lasher 93, passed away on Aug. 24, 2014 at HPH Hospice, Hudson, FL. She was born on Nov. 16, 1920 in Richmond Hill, NY to Edward V. and Florence (Rohn) Lasher. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul E. Mayer; a daughter, Joan (Frank) of Macon, GA; and two sons, Paul (Barbara) of Trumbull, CT and John of Hudson, FL; and a loving friend, Maureen Doherty of Temple Terrace; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; two nephews, John (Lucille) and Joseph (Wendy); and a niece, Florence (Carl). She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Florence and brother John. Mrs. Mayer was a member of the Greatest Generation. As a young woman during World War II she worked on Long Island, NY, making gyroscopes for military aircraft then married a returning Army veteran. While raising her three children, she worked at Doubleday Company, Garden City, NY and Dictaphone Corporation in Bridgeport, CT. After moving to Georgia, she worked at the Federal Employees Credit Union, Norcross, GA. Upon retirement in 1985, Zephyrhills, FL became the Mayer's hometown until they moved to Hudson, FL in 2011. Family will receive friends at Thomas B. Dobies Funeral Home, 6616 Congress Street, New Port Richey from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Wednesday. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne's Byzantine Catholic Church at 7120 Massachusetts Avenue, New Port Richey, FL on Thursday at 10 am.
