Roland Paegle Obituary

PAEGLE, Roland Dzintars 74, Born In Riga, Latvia. Graduate of Yale College and Yale University School of Medicine who also went on to become a Professor of Clinical Pathology with numerous faculty appointments and a myriad of publications completed throughout his medical career. His secondary major in graphic arts laid the ground for what would become his greatest personal passion. With an incredible educational background, Roland exercised his creative artistic muscles nearly every day in so many different ways. Like a snowstorm in July, the Paegle family was taken by surprise when Dr. Paegle suddenly became ill and passed away within a matter of days. Roland's only blessing with this news was his ability to spend his final days surrounded by his family that he deeply loved and cherished. He is survived by his queen, Grazina; his two sons, Tadas and Edward; daughters-in-law, Inga and Laura; and grandchildren, Julian, Skyler, Kristina and Lukas. In the end, Roland got what so many wish for: A great life and plenty of family to share treasured moments, roaming the globe and exploring exotic and unique destinations. A professor of pathology, an undying artist (his work is on display and immortalized across the country) with a true appreciation of art in all of it's forms, a self-taught professional photographer, a devoted and dutiful husband and father, Roland left his impression on all that got to know the man behind the lens. With a true belief that all of us have rights along with responsibilities and opportunities, Roland always put 110% into every paper, project, sculpture, painting, activity, demonstration, etc. He was a terrific influence on so many lives and he lived each day with purpose and passionately sucked and enjoyed all of the marrow that life had to offer. Like a kid in a candy-store, Roland leapt from one accomplishment to the next, leaving a wake of change and expression behind that captivated all of our hearts and minds. Good Bye Dad. Good Bye My Love. You shall live forever in our hearts and minds and we look forward to the day when we will be reunited together once again. We will follow your example by seizing each day to fully live our lives and we will also continue the legacy you started with the camera and flash bulbs so many years ago as we build on your "Happy Memory Savings Account". Memorial Mass will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 301 58th St. S, on Saturday, April 16th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations directly to History Dome and Art Park Inc., 38 Blueberry Lane, Alexander, ME, 04694. This was Roland's greatest personal artistic achievement and is an ongoing institution in Maine that will grow year by year as the family follows Roland's footsteps in renovating and adding to the Art Park. The Art Park is open to the public all summer long and we welcome all lover's of art, nature and a spirituality that only transcends our souls when you visit the magical forests where the park is located. Grazina and Family our deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved Roland. He had a very soft spot for our community and will be greatly missed by many, and yet every time we walk on the Art Trail we and those that come after us will remember him for years to come and know love he held for this community.

It was a pleasure to work with Roland on his History Dome graphics over the past 9 plus years, and the passion and pleasure he had with this project was very quickly passed on to me. We worked side by side for hours laying out the high resolution files made from his full size hand cut work sheets, a time consuming effort in themselves to make. I will never forget such a man, now amongst the stars Roland has a chance to see his legacy work the way he designed it to be. Our thoughts are with you Grazina. Frank and Melissa Williams

My fondest memories will be the fact that I had the opportunity to get to know Roland on an artistic level. I was privileged to have known him and work with him on building his dream the Alexander Art Trail. I learned so much from him over the past several years. The simplest of pleasure he received were with each completion of the trail. My greatest endeavor was the challenge he propose to me to push my limits to build the trail and acquire the knowledge that I did not have in the beginning. I questioned myself each step of the way but with his moral support achieved, what I thought was not possible. My deepest sympathy to the entire Paegle family. He will be sadly missed. I wish with all my heart we had more time to learn the joys of living from him.
