OSTERBURG, James William 95, son of William and Margaret Dwyer Osterburg, died after a short illness on Nov. 23, 2012 in Palm Harbor. Born on Jan. 27, 1917, he began his career as a patrolman with the New York City Police Department and retired 20 years later as a Detective First Class. He then taught at Indiana University, Bloomington and the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle. He is the author of several seminal textbooks on forensic science. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Julia Bevalac Osterburg; and his sister, Virginia Howard. He is survived by four sons, James M. (Elizabeth), Walter (Carol), William, and Robert (Diana Hersh); three grandchildren, Andrew, Mathew and Mara; & one great-grandchild, Nicolas.
