HALPIN, Robert J. 90, of Seminole, FL, died June 12, 2013. A former resident of Vineland, NJ where he was a practicing attorney until he moved to Seminole in 1989. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. A member of the Catholic War Veterans, American Legion, VFW, Navy Club and United War Veterans. An active Democrat, he was elected to the Vineland City Council, County Freeholder Board and the State of New Jersey Assembly, where he served four consecutive terms, as Minority Leader, Majority Leader and finally Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly. He was a lifetime member of the Bishop John Carroll Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He served as Lector at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Seminole Lake Country Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; five children; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a stepchild; two stepgrandchildren; and a step great-grandchild. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Friday, June 21st at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 9111 90th Ave N., Largo. Family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.
