EDMONDSON, David age 88, of Palm Harbor, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013. Born in England in 1925, he served proudly on a mine sweeper in the British Royal Navy in WWII, and played professional soccer for Middlesbrough, England before emigrating to the United States in 1948. He was the owner of Home Decorating Center in Bradford, MA and Park Haven Rest Home in Haverhill, MA. In 1975 he became the Operations Manager of the Boston Garden Sports Arena and held that position until his retirement in 1985. David was loved and will be missed by many friends and family members. In his retirement years he was an avid golfer and traveler, and enjoyed many happy hours with his grandchildren, who will always cherish wonderful memories of their trips to Florida. He will be fondly remembered for his dry British wit, his gentle manner, and his generous spirit. He loved classical music, golf, soccer, the coast of Maine, and a good cup of English tea. He was a scholar, a sportsman, and a gentleman. He is survived by his wife, Claire Heath Edmondson; daughters, Pamela Edmondson and Walda Smith of Haverhill, MA; son, David and wife Norine of Haverhill, MA; son, Dennis and wife Faithe MacElliott of Atkinson, NH; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many loving friends. Claire would like to express sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff of Manor Care in Palm Harbor and the Burgundy team of Suncoast Hospice. Those wishing to, may make donations to Suncoast Hospice in David's memory. A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date.
