Victoria Dombrowski Obituary

Dombrowski, Victoria
Victoria (Vickie) Barbara Dombrowski, 95, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2013 at the Smith House Health Care Center. She was born in Stamford on July 21, 1917 to the late Stephania and Martin Bienkowski. Vickie attended the Holy Name of Jesus School and Stamford High School. She inherited her parents' strong work ethic, when, as a teenager, she left school and started working to help support her parents and siblings during the Great Depression. As a young woman, Vickie worked as a proofreader for the Conde Nast Publishing Company, and joined the Holy Name of Jesus Church choir where she met her future husband, Bernie. Vickie and Bernie were wed on August 10, 1946 and they enjoyed a loving marriage lasting over 50 years. As a young mother Vickie worked as a telephone operator for the Southern New England Telephone Company where she remained until her retirement in 1982. Upon retiring she became a volunteer at the former St. Joseph Hospital's gift shop for many years. Vickie was always proud of her Polish heritage and was fluent in the Polish language, enabling her to act as an interpreter and advisor to her many Polish relatives who immigrated to the United States. She enjoyed sewing and reading, and was involved in many church activities, but her greatest pleasure was found in spending time with her family and friends, especially sharing in all the celebrations and milestones of her four grandchildren. Above all, Vickie was devoted to her faith and family, and it was her strong beliefs and values that sustained her throughout her life, caring not only for those closest to her but to everyone she met. Vickie was a member of the Holy Name Rosary Society, the St. Benedict's Senior Circle and the SNET Pioneers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Dombrowski, her son, Peter Dombrowski and her brothers Stanley and Peter Bienkowski. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn and her husband Bruce Darbandi of Stamford, her daughter-in-law MaryAnn Dombrowski of Stamford, her grandchildren Rebecca and David Dombrowski, Daniel and Mariam Darbandi, and her sister, Helen Augustyn of Stamford.Family and friends may call at The Nicholas F.
