Mann, Gretchen - Lyme
Mann, Gretchen Gretchen Mann, 67, a long time resident of Lyme CT passed away on Thursday morning, after a brief illness. Born in Melrose,Mass, and raised in Marblehead, Mass she was the only child of Richard & Eunice Pratt. She was the wife of R. Mowry Mann and the mother of Molly Bellemore Mann. Gretchen was a renowned floral and interior designer. With a minimalist, graceful style, her work was profiled in various national and international design magazines. Her engaging, outrageous quick wit, bawdy sense of humor, and deeply loving and generous character, made Gretchen the spotlight of every social engagement in which she was involved. Her boundless spirit, made her the source and anchoring point for countless friendships. Gretchen's greatest pride and joy was her daughter Molly, and she was often quoted as saying "she is the best part of me." Among many other things, she and Molly shared a deep love for animals. Called by some the "Dr. Doolittle of Lyme," Gretchen's various homes, provided refuge to a wide swath of animal kingdom members - everything from Longhorn cows to peacocks, goats and chickens. All were welcomed, cared for and deeply loved. Currently, she is survived by five dogs, and two mini horses. Gretchen was a summer person. She waited impatiently each year for the warmer months which brought to her sun, water and boating, her greatest pleasures.
